PE & Sports Funding

The government provides additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding has been provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health & Culture, Media and Sport. This funding is ring-fenced within the school’s delegated budget and can therefore be only spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

The following funding has been made available to our school since the start of the ‘PE & sports funding’ initiative:

2013/14 financial year - £ 5,464

2014/15 financial year - £ 8,686

2015/16 financial year - £ 8,899

2016/17 financial year - £ 8,899

2017/18 financial year - £17,860

2018/19 financial year - £17,860

2019/20 financial year - £17,860

2020/21 financial year - £17,904

2021/22 financial year - £17,904

2022/23 financial year - £17,904

2023/24 financial year - £17,904

2024/25 financial year - £17,904

Sarum St Paul’s aims to increase PE participation and enjoyment for ALL pupils, increase the coaching/teaching competence of class teachers and offer a wide range of sports activities. The funding has allowed us to introduce a new scheme of work for PE curriculum, improve the PE provision through the purchasing of additional or replacing of equipment and fund inter-school sporting competitions. We are confident that the activities and resources that we fund through this grant will support a sustainable improvement to the PE teaching and pupil participation in sport.

How did we spend our money in 2023/24

Evidencing the impact of the Primary PE and sport premium 2023/24

"To read in this report that “100% of children at Sarum St Paul’s” look forward to, enjoy, feel safe and are confident in PE lessons demonstrates the high-quality planning and teaching that our school provides in this important subject area.  The children clearly have access to a wide variety of sports over the year and understand the importance of living healthy, active lives.  I am full of admiration for Mrs Shinn and Mrs Field for their dedication and whole-hearted commitment to providing the very best for our children and want to thank them for all they do." Chair of Governors September 2024

"Offering pupils the chance to develop fundamental skills while offering a broad range of physical activities, together with the chance to play for teams and compete off-site have such a positive impact on individual children and the school as a whole. Miss Martindale should be congratulated for her work raising the profile of PE at SSP, building staff confidence in delivery of the subject and creating opportunities for all children to participate." PE link Governor June 2018

“The additional sports funding provided by the government has enabled the school to employ specialist coaches to provide additional sporting provision in and after school and provide training for staff to develop their expertise. It has also enabled the school to extend the experience pupils have of sports, for example golf, street and Brazillian dance.” Ofsted Inspection Report July 2014
